Off course Australian Contemporary Public Art in general is very rich and diverse. It counts with the collaboration of many different artists and companies with diverse and interesting backgrounds, most of them are particularly from this parts or the world, what they call ‘Australasia‘. However, I have recently visited the UAP (Urban Art Projects) workshop and got just amazed! It is one of those design companies which collaborates with artists, architects, designers and developers to bring uncommon creativity to the public spaces. World famous names such as Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. Their main studio and workshop is located in Brisbane, Australia, but their works are spread-out around the world and are just stunning pieces of human imagination materialised into concrete poetry with the help of the highest technology. While I was there they were about to ship away a massive playground area straight to Qatar. There are also other key studios and workshops in Shanghai and New York, and satellite offices in Melbourne, Singapore, Shenzhen, Detroit and Dubai.
They work for both Public and Private sectors and with a big team of designers, project managers and laborers (around 100 employees only in Brisbane) added up to high technology robotics systems are transforming Australian urban centres, including Brisbane where a large part of their Urban Arts are located. I would highly recommend a visit to their website (https://www.uapcompany.com/), or even going to one of the workshop visits organised quite often by them for Creative Industries professionals and the public in general, and guess what? Everything for free!
They started in 1993 small with only one industrial shed located in Northgate, Northside Brisbane suburb. Therefore, today business has grown and now they run a 5000 square-meter industrial complex employing the most diverse range of professionals involved in the designing and fabrication process of Urban Art pieces. 3D Printing, Augmented reality and Virtual Reality are just some of the technologies adopted by the company in their production process. Their close relationship with Universities and Technology Institutes allows them the adoption of the newest technology available in the industrial design area making their work so unique and remarkable.
