The Vimanas Temples – India

Hello there! How is it going? Hope all is going well in your life and you are in peace. “UAP’s or Vimanas?” If you have seen the international news these last weeks I am sure you have an idea of what I am talking about. Lol! Jokes apart, let’s explore this time, in India once again, the Ancient Vimanas, these mesmerizing and unbelievable Indian monuments from circa the 12th Century.

I particularly think that studying and understanding our reality through history, treating it like a large puzzle to be put together, is the best way to have a better picture of the things we see these days instead of only being told by someone else’s single perspective.

Many of those temples are distributed worldwide according to an energetic grid part of our Planet Earth, as some theorists like to affirm. Learn more about this fascinating topic from one of our previous, and widely popular, Blog posts, “The Stepped Monuments“.

India, a land of profound spirituality and rich cultural heritage, is home to numerous temples reflecting ancient civilizations’ architectural brilliance. Among these, the Vimanas temples stand out for their intricate designs and towering structures and their enigmatic connection to ancient texts that describe flying machines, or “Vimanas.” These temples, primarily concentrated in South India, have fascinated historians, archaeologists, and enthusiasts of ancient astronaut theories alike. Let’s explore the architectural grandeur of these temples and delve into the intriguing possibility of their connection to spacecraft.

The Architectural Brilliance of Vimanas Temples

The term “Vimana” in Sanskrit traditionally refers to the towering spires or sanctum towers of Hindu temples. These structures, often adorned with intricate carvings, are designed to symbolize Mount Meru, the mythical axis of the universe in Hindu cosmology. Vimanas are integral to temple architecture, especially in the Dravidian style prevalent in South India. Notable examples include the ‘Brihadeeswarar Temple’ in Thanjavur, the ‘Meenakshi Temple’ in Madurai, and the ‘Virupaksha Temple’ in Hampi. Whether they were originally built as “temples”we don’t really know today. However, the fact is that they are pretty stunning!

By the way, get to know more about the “Mount Meru” in one of our unmissable previous Blog posts about the “Pura Balinese Temples“. The influence of the Hindu culture in the island of Bali is just fascinating!

These temples are marvels of engineering, showcasing advanced construction techniques that were ahead of their time. The towering Vimanas, often reaching heights of over 200 feet, were constructed without modern machinery. They were meticulously carved from single blocks of granite or assembled from interlocking stones, demonstrating an exceptional understanding of geometry, physics, and artistry.

The Brihadeeswarar Temple, for instance, boasts a Vimana that rises to 216 feet (66.00 meters), crowned with a single granite block weighing approximately 80 tons. This massive block was transported and placed at the pinnacle without the use of cranes, a feat that continues to baffle engineers today. The precision with which these structures were built has led some to speculate about the involvement of advanced knowledge or even extraterrestrial assistance.

Ancient Texts and the Concept of Vimanas as Flying Machines

The intrigue surrounding Vimanas extends beyond their architectural splendor. Ancient Indian texts, such as the Vedas, the Mahabharata, and the Ramayana, contain references to flying machines called Vimanas. These descriptions often depict Vimanas as technologically advanced crafts capable of traversing vast distances, both within the Earth’s atmosphere and beyond.

One of the most detailed accounts of Vimanas is found in the Samarangana Sutradhara, a 12th-century Sanskrit treatise on architecture and engineering. This text describes the construction, operation, and maintenance of flying machines, mentioning materials like mercury and metals that could produce propulsion. The Vimanas are said to be capable of vertical takeoff, hovering, and high-speed travel, characteristics strikingly similar to modern spacecraft, such as ‘drones’ right?

In the Mahabharata, there are vivid descriptions of aerial battles involving Vimanas, with weapons that resemble modern laser technology. The Ramayana also mentions the Pushpaka Vimana, a flying chariot used by the demon king Ravana. These accounts have led to speculation that ancient Indian civilizations might have possessed advanced aeronautical knowledge or were visited by extraterrestrial beings who shared their technology.

According to ‘Vaimanika Shastra’ the vimanas are classified into 3 types: 1) maantrika, 2) taantrika and 3) Kritaka as per yugas. In maantrika, 25 types of of vimanas, in taantrika 56 types of vimanas are there and in Kruthaka mainly 4 types of vimanas and those are shakuna, sundara, rukma and tripura. The Connection Between Temples and Spacecraft

The connection between the Vimanas temples and the concept of flying machines lies in the symbolism and design of these structures. The towering spires of the temples, reaching skyward, are often interpreted as an attempt to bridge the earthly and the divine. Some theorists propose that the temples were not merely places of worship but also served as “energy centers” or “beacons” for aerial vehicles.

The geometric precision and alignment of these temples with celestial bodies further fuel this hypothesis. Many Vimanas temples are aligned with specific astronomical events, such as solstices and equinoxes, indicating a deep understanding of astronomy. The ‘Brihadeeswarar Temple’, for instance, is designed so that its shadow never falls on the ground at noon, a feat of architectural genius that suggests advanced knowledge of solar positioning.

Additionally, some carvings and sculptures on these temples depict what appear to be flying objects, humanoid figures in aerial postures, and other motifs that resemble spacecraft. While mainstream historians attribute these depictions to artistic imagination and symbolism, proponents of ancient astronaut theories view them as evidence of advanced aeronautical technology.

Scientific Perspectives and Speculations

While the idea of Vimanas as ancient spacecraft is captivating, it remains a topic of debate among scholars. Mainstream archaeologists and historians argue that the descriptions in ancient texts are metaphorical rather than literal. They suggest that the references to flying machines could symbolize spiritual journeys or divine interventions.

However, the possibility of lost knowledge or advanced ancient technologies cannot be entirely dismissed. The precision and complexity of the Vimanas temples, combined with the detailed descriptions in ancient texts, hint at a sophisticated understanding of science and engineering. Whether this knowledge was developed indigenously or influenced by external factors, such as contact with extraterrestrial beings, remains an open question.

Now, watch this very interesting summary video about the Ancient Indian ‘Vimanas’. They also speak about how the Vedas divide time into ages, and over time, different things happen in the skies according to the specific age we are in. The same age classification that we mention in one of our previous Blog posts about the amazing “Indian Stepwells“. Don’t miss it!

Conclusion

The Vimanas temples of India stand as timeless monuments to human ingenuity and creativity. Their architectural splendor continues to inspire awe, while their enigmatic connection to ancient flying machines adds a layer of mystery that captures the imagination of people worldwide. Whether viewed as symbolic representations of spiritual ascent or as evidence of advanced ancient technology, these temples remind us of the boundless potential of human innovation and the enduring allure of the unknown.

As we continue to explore the mysteries of our past, the Vimanas temples invite us to look beyond conventional narratives and consider the possibility that ancient civilizations were far more advanced than we have yet to fully comprehend. Whether they were inspired by divine visions, astronomical observations, or encounters with otherworldly beings, these temples remain a testament to the enduring quest for knowledge and the eternal connection between humanity and the cosmos.

So, what do you think about the Vimanas? We would love to hear your opinion! ♦
